Beyond the Fountain

7 Unconventional Savannah Engagement Locations

Everyone knows Savannah for its beautiful historic downtown, the Spanish Moss, the historic architecture, but have you ever considered having your engagement session at a cemetery, coffee shop or a brewery?

There is definitely something to be said for the iconic fountain in Forsyth Park or Jones Street, but there is no shortage of interesting spots within Savannah’s downtown area and they aren’t as crowded.

To be fair the list of options are endless and I am discovering more all the time. I just love walking the streets and finding inspiration as it comes.

Places I love a bit farther outside of Historic Downtown

Bonaventure Cemetery

Especially during the azalea season, but even in January there are flowers blooming and so much green that you can almost forget that you are in a cemetery. Not to mention the waterfront along the Wilmington River.

Wormsloe Historic Park

Beautiful lane lined with historic oak trees. Isle of Hope overlooking the marshes.  Logistically, it could be a lot of walking, because the tram basically brings you down the lane that the park is known for, without an on and off option along the way. There is also a $25 Photography fee, as well as $12 per person to enter the park.

Daffin Park

Although it is smart to keep track of the Savannah Bananas’ scheduled home games, this park is beautiful and not too far of a walk down Washington street to Tiedeman Park.  This is where you can find towering palm trees lining the beautiful divided Atlantic Ave with a park.

A lot of Savannah is walkable or a quick drive.

Forsyth Park

I have photographed sessions in Forsyth and driven to the RiverWalk and made the most of the time at both locations. Even a majority of the 22 Squares are within a walkable distance.

There is more to the park than the fountain, beautiful as it is, it is generally crowded with tourists or people trying to get the exact same picture. There are so many interesting spots within the park, like a little gated almost undisturbed garden or the tree lined walk ways. This is also an instance where the crowds could add to the blurred background of the images. If you venture a block or two away, there is so much more interesting architecture and colorful neighborhoods that create so much more depth to your session.

Between Bay Street and RiverWalk there are so many interesting spots to stop- from the historic walking bridges to those famously intimidating ‘Stairs of Death’

A quick stop for something that is purely you.

Taking the journey through the streets of Savannah can be fun, but having a plan to stop into a Brewery or coffee shop can add to the feeling that makes a session feel more unique.
At Two Tides Brewery or Service Brewing a quick stop to enjoy a beer or two can just add that little extra, “this is so us” moment just before venturing out to explore more of what Savannah has to offer.

Breweries

While Service Brewing is right near the Riverwalk and the JW Marriott’s expansive newly renovated area, it is also close to being under the Talmadge Bridge. This makes for a really cool backdrop that isn’t where most people think to grab a picture.

Two Tides Brewery is in the Starland area of the city and has so many interesting spots to explore. Starland Yard, the industrial shipping containers and beer hall vibes is also a fun colorful backdrop and intentional vibe.

Hop Atomica’s patio and inside booths make for a modern vibe, with gold and green accents you can share a pizza and a drink while you completely forget I am sitting right across from you. From there it is a quick walk to Baldwin Park just on the other end of the long line of palms that leads to Tiedeman Park.

Savannah is a city of layers,

and there is a corner for every kind of love story. It has historic architecture, industrial edges and 300-year-old oak or towering palm trees at every turn. The location is just a setting. The real story is where you feel most like yourselves, allowing everything around to just fall away. My goal is to help you find the place that feels most like you.  You should be at ease, and both me and the surroundings will help give you that comfort.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that Savannah and most of the locations I mentioned are dog friendly. [Check out, Including your Pups post here]
